Just met with Olive’s surgeon. He’s leaning towards a less invasive procedure to restore her flow. He will cut open the skull, then do an ultrasound. If that relieves the pressure then he won’t go in and cut into the brain. The downside to that is 10 percent of kids will need another more invasive surgery later. So.. we don’t want to get our hopes up, but not having to cut open Olive’s brain is on both of our Christmas wish lists.
If we could fix this as simply as possible, I’m on board, if it just causes additional surgeries, then I am not on board. Sigh….
We have prepared for the worst, but are hoping for the best. I said to Olive, what happens if the skull only procedure works and you get to go to school early? We’ve already handed all your homework and school work in through February. What are you going to do? We didn’t anticipate this issue as being an issue.
