This post includes a link to a simple video that can be shown to children. It’s designed to help younger brains learn more about what children with Chiari go through and why Olive misses a lot of school. I hope that it will help instill empathy and compassion from peers, teachers, and caregivers.
Unlike Erin in this Story. Olive does NOT want to talk about Chiari and generally avoids these conversations. This can look like she is pretending not to hear you or it can just look like opposition. It is common for children to be uncomfortable with being different. I’m hoping to change her viewpoint to empower her to become an advocate for herself and also for other children suffering from invisible conditions and chronic pain issues.
